The NYPD ESU and FDNY responded to Bement Avenue and Clove Way after receiving a call around 6 p.m. from a group of five kids who entered the drain and got lost in the tunnel.
The FDNY on Wednesday detailed how the five boys ended up trapping themselves after entering the tunnel and climbing more than 1,300 feet, past multiple manhole covers.
Emergency officials were able to track down the spot they entered after finding a pile of jackets and backpacks. But they struggled to locate exactly where in the sewer system the boys had stopped.
In the recordings, the dispatcher can be heard instructing the children to scream so that the rescue team can locate them.
First responders assisted with the rescue and took the kids, all 11-12 years old, to Richmond University Medical Center as a precaution.

B”H it didn’t start to rain.
Was this drain supposed to be open like that? Was that a mistake or did the children remove the cover? Something isn’t right here.
A real miracle!
And to think, they even had
קליטה,a connection , down in the drain.
Ah, many fond dating memories made in Clove Lakes Park many moons ago
What a stupid thing to do. They should have left a trail of breadcrumbs to follow so they could find the way out. They are lucky that they didn’t meet an alligator.
