Grandson Of Angel Bakery Founders Slams Charedim Over Boycott: ‘Noose Is Tightening Around Their Necks’

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — There has been no official response to the chareidi boycott of Angel’s bakery due to its director Omer Bar-Lev demonstrating outside the home of Rabbi Gershon Edelstein. The boycott, started on social media on Thursday, gained traction when leading chareidi and religious Zionist rabbis came out in support of the boycott and protested the disgrace to a Torah giant. Many yeshivos and chareidi institutions cancelled orders with Angel bakery and the stocks are reportedly down since the boycott started.

A grandson of the founder of the bakery, Yoel Spiegel, elected to respond via Facebook to the boycott.

Spiegel wrote that “the days of eating for free are over, the day of judgement is nigh.”

Spiegel added that ” I don’t know of a law prohibiting demonstrations opposite the house of this rabbi or that rabbi and the response of the free-riding community who eat carcasses stems from fear and hysteria because the noose is tightening around their necks.”

Spiegel later allegedly erased the post but journalist Avi Ravina revealed that he had not actually erased it but it had been deleted by Facebook for its malicious character.

Spiegel responded that he would “close accounts” with whoever took down his post and continued to criticize the chareidim and to support Bar Lev’s right to demonstrate against “parasites and draft dodgers” who are “living off us”

Spiegel claimed that the bakery “feeds thousands” [although it doesn’t do this for free ] and decried the chareidi boycott against them.

no decent person would support a company whose senior staff are antagonising an important part of their clientelle.

Typical progressive, leftist response . They can attack the right, but Chas V’Sholom , there is a counter-opinion from the right !!! The Frum community acted well . Hit them where it hurts .

Well if the non Jews did what the not to grand grandfather did, we would say they are antisemites.
This old man exhibited hatred to one of the nicest Jews who happens to be a gadol b’Torah. I wouldn’t support this antisemites business.

Lots of kosher restaurants in america serve angel pita. Check if your local restaurant serves it and tell them you don’t want it and why

The chlonim are desperate and they don’t know how to react to unity that above their heads. It’s incredible, that once the religious responds in unison the left is reeling.

To Angel’s bakery corporate: perhaps apologise. That would be a good start.

The Jewish leftists/”liberals” in the US and Israel are viscous anti-Semites. They love terrorists and non-Jews in general but always jump on a chance to spew hatred on religious Jews.

His grandparents opened this business on the basis of Jewish labor…they were idealists. Shame on their grandson,he disgraces them. Yes, he has a right to demonstrate and we have a right to react to his choices. That foul mouthed grandson will no longer need Hashgacha of the Eida Hachareidis; their frum customers will be demonstrating as well.

Hearing what Spiegel has said about the Chareidim and Rav Edelstein, his business will end up collapsing shortly and he will have to declare bankruptcy.
Spuegel has plenty of money in savings
But the poor workers?
What does he care?
He will bring his company down if he doesn’t offer a sincere apology shortly

a couple of essential facts that have been left out of the story
A) there is very little Jewish labor in Angel bakery nowadays, over 90% of the workers are Arabs.
B) they dont really care if they go bankrupt. they have not broken even for a long time. the land that the factory is built on has been sold for a large sum of money a couple of years. the owners have probably gotten all the cash that they can out of this business and going bankrupt will just mean that they dont need to find investments for the planned new bakery in the Negev
C) the amount that they have lost financially over the past few days is enormous yet they are keeping it quiet. i personally saw a couple of dumpster trucks being filled with unsold and returned bread and rolls. There are trucks full of bread with nowhere to go.
D) the Charedi and dati contracts may only be 20% of there sales, large sales like the army, hotels etc are still going strong and most Charedim bought from other cheaper sources. However, 20% is still a very large number

Slow learner!! Anheuser-Busch is still reeling from the stupid move that alienated a major segment of their customer base, and this guy does similar with the bakery!

I also don’t know of a law that says you can’t protest outside the house of a rabbi. But there’s also no law against boycotts.

Idiot. You’re calling chareidim parasites because they supposedly take your money, but you’re mad because they won’t *give* you their money

There might be more to the cost aspect. it might be that all the Yeshiva business is low profit. There might be Government price limits on what they are permitted to charge.
This is sad because I told my children that if it is Angels it is Kosher, no concerns.

Disgraceful comments and disgraceful language from the Angel grandson.
Reads like the way some VIN commentators write about “leftists” or “tzionim.”
Terrible thing that he should copy the writing style of some of the people here.
