DAILY WIRE CEO: Here’s why Ben Shapiro would not fire Candace Owens

(VINnews) — Candace Owners, the black podcast host who has made repeated offensive comments about Jews, and is embroiled in a feud with her frum Jewish colleague Ben Shapiro, remains employed by Shapiro’s Daily Wire, which some find puzzling.

The ongoing controversy has led many to speculate about why Shapiro has not fired Owens, especially since he recently dared her to quit.

In response to the speculation, Daily Wire co-CEO Jeremy Boreing posted a tweet explaining that in addition to Shapiro not having the executive power to fire Owens, he also is opposed in principle to suppressing her freedom of speech.

Boreing also said that although he was on leave and could not fire Owens if he wanted to, he would not do so anyway.

“I am currently on a leave of absence from my executive duties @realdailywire while overseas producing #thependragoncycle. In my current capacity, I cannot fire Candace Owens. That’s something Ben and I have in common since he is also not an executive in the company and cannot hire or fire people,” wrote Boreing on X.

He then defended the freedom of expression of his employees, among whom, of course, is Owens. “But even if we could, we would not fire Candace because of another thing we have in common: a desire not to regulate the speech of our hosts, even when we disagree with them,” he continued.

“Candace is paid to give her opinion, not mine or Ben’s. Unless those opinions run afoul of the law or she violates the terms of her contract in some way, her job is secure and she is welcome at Daily Wire,” Boreing concluded

Last week, Shapiro replied to a tweet from Owens imploring her to “by all means quit” if she feels her work at the site “comes between” her and G-d — as Owens’ tweet seemed to suggest.

Then Owens quickly shot back, “You have been acting unprofessional and emotionally unhinged for weeks now.”

She added: “You have been acting unprofessional and emotionally unhinged for weeks now. And we have all had to sit back and allow it and have all tried to exercise exceeding understanding for your raw emotion. But you cross a certain line when you come for scripture and read yourself into it,” she added, concluding, “I will not tolerate it.”

Owens later appeared on Tucker Carlson’s social media show, where she said there was “a lot of misunderstanding about Ben’s involvement” after being asked if he was her boss.

“He’s not the CEO of The Daily Wire. He is not making day-to-day decisions at The Daily Wire,” she said of Shapiro. “And I do want to make it very clear, because people are like, ‘How could you possibly see stay at The Daily Wire after this? I have a very good relationship with the co-CEOs at The Daily Wire. Especially right now, the acting CEO is Caleb Robinson. He’s a wonderful person, he’s worked very hard to be where he’s at. We have a lot in common that we connect on.”

So because someone’s paid to give their opinion, they can’t be fired for being a bad employee?
