Shimon HyD was the son of Rabbi Rafi Asulin, who heads the yeshiva Shaalei Torah in Beit Shemesh as well as being the rabbi of the Kol Eliyahu community. Rabbi Asulin and his wife Tehila have many students and disciples and have given strength to their community during the difficult period of the Swords of Steel war.

In a radio interview, Rabbi Asulin said that “my son was not relaxed when at home, he wanted to be back fighting in Gaza and then got word that he would be called back to serve…he went into the Hamas command center, came in first and was hit. In our building there is another family who lost their son in Gaza, Daniel Kastiel, and he was a good friend of my son, now they are reunited…we understand that we are part of a big struggle and we educated our children to be at the front line, to be fighters. This is our country and we must take responsibility for it.”

Shimon insisted on reporting for reserve duty and was due to be released on Monday, but fell in battle. May his blood be avenged.
