WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday dismissed Rep. Ilhan Omar’s claim that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pulled over her son in Minnesota, calling the allegation false, a charge the Minnesota Democrat strongly rejected.

Omar said her adult son was stopped by ICE officers, questioned about his citizenship, and released only after producing his U.S. passport. She described the incident as racial profiling tied to stepped-up immigration enforcement in the state.
DHS officials said there is no record of any ICE stop involving Omar’s son and characterized her account as “bogus.” ICE also denied that its agents conducted the encounter described by the congresswoman.
Omar fired back, saying the absence of a record does not disprove the incident and accusing federal authorities of attempting to discredit her rather than address what she called aggressive and discriminatory enforcement tactics. She said heightened immigration operations in Minnesota have left immigrant communities fearful, even when individuals are U.S. citizens.
The dispute comes amid increased federal immigration activity in the region, which DHS says is aimed at public safety. Omar and other critics argue the enforcement push has disproportionately affected Somali-American communities and has led to improper stops and questioning.
No independent verification of the alleged encounter has been released, and DHS said it stands by its denial as the disagreement continues.
ICE has absolutely ZERO record of its officers or agents pulling over Congresswoman Omar’s son.
With no evidence, it is shameful that Congresswoman Omar would level accusations to demonize ICE as part of a PR stunt.
