    Boys’ Camp Trip Ends Fatally Times Herald Record
    Members of Bangor’s Jewish community went to the hospital to comfort the boys. According to the Jewish news blog Vos Iz Neias, members of Bangor’s Congregation Beth Israel brought the boys yarmulkes because theirs were lost in the crash.

    Roman Koyrakh, a 20-year-old college student, was on the bridge at 6 p.m. Wednesday, when the bridge collapsed, according to a report on Vos Iz Neias, a religious news Web site. His airbag was activated, but his car hit the river and started filling with water. “There was a loud bang, and my car buckled suddenly,” he told Vos Iz Neias.

    Outcry reached a crescendo last week, with the Voz iz Neias (Yiddish for ‘What’s News’) Web site reporting thousands of phone calls to officials in Albany.
    “Chazal Tell us ‘Kol Israel Arevim Ze Lezeh,’ we are all responsible for each other,” the Jewish news organization said.

    Northway death seen as the last straw
    “Thousands of our readers have read with great sadness about the tragic accident that happened last Friday on the (Northway),” the group said on the Vos Iz Neias Web site. “Unfortunately, we are also aware of the terrible fact that this could have been prevented … many of our readers travel this road often, and we know all too well the disastrous results that can happen when stranded without any means of outside contact.”
    The group is asking all of its members to contact state lawmakers and voice support for cell towers.

    Butcher Is Accused of Passing Off Chicken as Kosher NY Times
    The matter has been the talk of Jewish Web logs. One of them, Vos Iz Neias, announced it under the banner headline ”Butcher Sells Treifa Chicken as Kosher.” (Nonkosher food, or food that is not in accord with Jewish dietary laws, is called treif, which derives from the Hebrew word teref, or torn.) The posting generated 440 comments in two days.
