The renovation is expected to cost upwards of $800,000. To fully fund the project, the EMJC needs to match the $400,000 it was given by the state.

Administrators at the EMJC – located at 1625 Ocean Avenue – hope to begin the project within two years, according to EMJC president Gail Hammerman. From that point, it will take approximately 12 to 18 months to complete, Hammerman said.

Maybe they can raise the rest by selling the rights to a frum Mossad instead of the dying conservative population currently running it. I undertsand a major source of income is the daycare program run in the basement, of which supposedly NO jewish children attend…

Dont you get it, this “synagogue is VERY connected. The Rabbi has been the NYC PD Chief Chaplain for 30 years and I’m certain that his tenure played a major role in securing these funds.

I don’t understand. How is this project protecting the nevironment? Why should state money support a synagogue? Wouldn’t we be upset if this money were to go to refurbish a mosque? Why are we taking this money?

    Note to Shlomah Shamos.

I just wanted to thank you for being open to a variety of opinions, including mine.

I don’t blog yet, but read a number of periodicals online and share selected ones with friends–so I have a sense of the effort you put into this blog.

    Kol ha Kavod!
