Los Angeles, CA – The Spinka Rabbi and the six other defendants were in court today to face Magistrate Judge Alicia Rosenberg. Included in the group was also Moshe Arie Lazar, who has surrendered from Israel to FBI officials in Los Angeles, as reported here. All seven of them pleaded not guilty to charges of tax fraud and money laundering.

All 7 men face lengthy terms in federal prison if convicted on all charges.
The defendants are free on bond except for Roth, an assistant manager at Mizrahi Bank, who remains in custody. On Friday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephen Tillman granted Roth $1.9 million bond, but stayed his decision so prosecutors could appeal it to another judge.
The trial date was now assigned to District Court Judge George P. Schiavelli, for Tuesday, February 12th.
The FBI is still looking for Jacob Ivan Kantor who is said to be in Israel. [VIN News]
