Brooklyn, NY – A Williamsburg community activist who would be the first Hasidic Jew on the City Council if elected has decided to run for David Yassky's seat.

Isaac Abraham, a hardware store owner and tenants advocate, said he is responding to "very strong" pressure from friends, colleagues and community residents to seek the post Yassky must vacate in 2009 due to term limits.
"I honestly feel I have watched this community grow and be deprived of most of the services it should have gotten," said Abraham. "There are problems that should be addressed. Letters from elected officials say, 'We're looking into the matter.' That will not happen on my watch. If I win, I will make sure they are addressed and responded to and acted upon."
Abraham is the fourth candidate to announce plans to run for Yassky's seat.
Besides Williamsburg, the 33rd Council District includes of Park Slope, Greenpoint, DUMBO, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights and Boerum Hill.
Political consultant Hank Sheinkopf said it's too early to analyze whether Abraham has a chance of becoming the first Hasidic councilman. "The district includes Williamsburg but also has other diverse parts of the county," he said. "Twenty months out, he's a great candidate….Will the Hasids as a bloc vote for him?"
"He is not likely to win as a Hasidic candidate. He needs other portions of the population. It's a nice idea, but his presence will prove what little power they have," he said.
Sheinkopf said Abraham had at best "a 50-50" chance of taking the seat. [nydailynews]
he would be very foolish to run only for the simple reason that he seems to have so many enemies and people with strong negative opinions towards him, they will dig up all the dirt on him and he knows they will not stop until they ruin him and the others attached to his “skeletons in the closet” it would be best for Mr. Issac and the people that are monitoring this blog for updates to persuade him and disuade him from this foolishness. People and families can get runied. Mr. Issac would be best to reconsider before he is on a road to disaster.
I dont know about Isaac Abraham, but I will say that many of the positive middos that are said about of Isaac Abrhaam helping people can be attributed to Jeff Weisenfeld.
I dont care if IA runs. Frankly he will probably be a good city councilman, but we shouldnt say bad things about Jeff Weisenfeld who has always been a solid advocate and representitive of our community.

IMHO (Peyrish/peyrush) Lefi Aniyas Daati. MR. Isaac Abraham has already passed a major test of the pre-requisites of running for public office. Not to be thin-skinned. Not to be fazed by all the nay-sayers. If someone has no enemies, that means he hasn’t accomplished anything [in life]. From [some] of the posts it is obvious that some people want to be right ALL the time. Others are plain jealous, or conspiratorial.

well i’ve known isaac for quit a number of years now and all those years when ever i had a problem that all the other so called “politicians”

Even though I don’t [presently] live in his [Council] district, I read occasionally of his great accomplishments through the years, particularly, in standing up to those “angels” (maybe of hell) at Kraus Management, who would shove down rent increases the throats of their tenants for giving [almost] no service at all.
