Brooklyn, NY – Assmblyman Dov Hikind Inspects Subway Stations Throughout District for Hazards. The inspection was launched by Hikind after he was contacted by Rena Katz, whose 14-year-old son Avi, was nearly killed on the Q line at the Kings Highway station on January 29th, when the wooden rubbing board, which abuts the platform, splintered, cracked and gave way under him, sending him hurtling onto the tracks with an incoming train. He scrambled to his feet and tried repeatedly to pull himself onto the platform. It was dark; the light directly overhead was out. He struggled desperately and then finally pulled himself to safety with only seconds to spare before the train crushed him.[as reported on VIN News]

According to a report compiled by Hikind’s office, the Kings Highway station is typical of hazardous conditions at other Brooklyn stations. “The deplorable safety hazards are outrageous. Is it negligence of incompetence? Is the MTA waiting for someone to get killed?”

Hye people, be smart! Do not stand on the edge of a platform and look to see when the train is coming!!

Rav Avigdor Miller, z”l, quoted the Rabbeinu Nissim at the beginning of Brachos who said that things that a person can figure out based on seichel are a Torah obligation. Rav Miller reminded us of the oft used expression, “lamah li krah, sevarah hu”…

It probably should have said seconds to spare before the train WOULD HAVE crushed him! To 10:47 – filth & the terrible stench! And better lighting, too! Keep up the great work Dov!

” It was dark; the light directly overhead was out. He struggled desperately and then finally pulled himself to safety with only seconds to spare before the train crushed him.”

I thought the story was that the train didn’t crush him!?!?!
