Acting New Jersey Gov. Richard Codey today signed “Grace’s Law,” which requires health insurers to cover the cost of hearing aids for children age 15 and younger.
The benefit can be capped at $1,000 per hearing aid every 24 months.
Codey is filling in while Gov. Corzine is away for the holidays.
The estimated cost to the state is $348,000 per year for the next three years for children insured under state insurance programs.
The law is named for Grace Gleba, a girl who was born with a severe hearing impairment.
As a mother of two hearing impaired children I am very relieved bh
In Halacha we are not allowed to be witnesses of what we hear only of what we see. In fact two witnesses are needed. However a Judge cannot judge if he actually saw the event. So there is a special advantage to the power of hearing every child should be able to get
Wow This is amazing! Yasher Coach!!
Would it cover cochlear implants too?
I have issues with how we have health insurance in the country because most people have no clue who is really paying. But this is something I am happy about. At least the kids can keep up with their development.
Great law. It should be in every state, and it should also cover electric wheelchairs and cochlear implants.
yes, but what quality hearing aids? the cheapest garbage available, or the highest of the high tech? knowing the cheapness of the state, I would expect cheap garbage to be covered (aka medicaid rates)
Cochlear implants are not covered under this law.
This is why insurance is so expensive in NJ…one of the highest in thoe country…because insurers are mandated to cover everyone regardless of pre-existing conditions…thats just insane…so a healthy family that wants catastrophic coverage only cannot get a decent plan but rather must pay upwards of $1,000 a month. In business friendly states, not socialist junk, a healthy family can purchase this coverage for just hundreds of dollars a month…so go ahead and mandate away & watch insurance costs head to $2,000 a month
