The new service, FedEx Freight A.M., provides a money-back guaranteed delivery by 10:30 a.m. for a flat rate of $75.

The service is targeted at shippers requiring last minute changes to delivery schedules for a particular shipment or as part of a planned strategy to reach a market or customer earlier in the day.

“Similar guarantees in the market are based on a percentage of revenue, but we tested the market and found that customers want it kept simple,” said FedEx Freight President and CEO Douglas G. Duncan. “A flat rate means no guess work is involved. It requires simply a notation on the bill of lading or an on-line request – no phone calls are necessary.

“As companies further compress supply chains and carefully manage inventory and cash flows, this level of service is more important than ever,” he said.

FedEx Freight deals in skids of goods, with shipments averaging 1,000 pounds. The previous best available service was guaranteed next-day delivery.

    Speed Up

I will admit I don’t know much about how the postal service works but I do have this thought. In England I heard that for just and extra 10 or 20 cents they can deliver a letter form one side of England to the other. I know that that is about the distance of one end of New York State to the other but at least it is available. One thing that seems clear is that if there is a specific route that is used often then very good service can be given for an affordable price

One idea which is similar to what there is already up and running in Manhattan is to offer discounted next day shipping between very large cities .Then the company just need to get the delivery to a local large city be the deadline and will get delivered to the other major city in a very short time at an affordable price. This news of guaranteeing next day is a good start to what seemed to be a dying business

why would you promote a company that will not deliver packages to any areas of the “gush” I have family in Neve Daniel and I am stuck using the US and Israeli postal system, and why would any company use them knowing this??

LTL Means Less Than Truckload. That’s used for business who can’t fill up a whole truck with freight to ship. A whole truck gets discounts.
