Postville, IA – The wife of Sholom Rubashkin says she will leave Postville to be closer her husband, after he is formally sentenced tomorrow.

Leah Rubashkin said she and other family members will relocate to the New York area, assuming that her husband is sent to one of the two federal prisons his lawyers have requested to meet his religious needs.
Rubashkin will receive a 27-year prison term in federal court tomorrow for his lead role in the massive bank fraud scheme at Agriprocessors Inc., the eastern Iowa kosher meat plant that he managed.
“Obviously, we are all very disappointed by today’s ruling,” Leah Rubashkin said in a conference call with reporters. “We feel that is excessive. We feel that is a life sentence to Sholom, myself, and our 10 children. We feel he’s been targeted.”
Defense lawyers said they will ask U.S. District Judge Linda Reade to send Rubashkin to the Otisville Federal Correctional Facility in New York state, or the federal prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Both are minimum-security prisons that can accommodate Rubashkin’s needs as a Chabad Lubavitch Jew, defense lawyers said.
The plant stumbled into bankruptcy after a massive May 2008 immigration raid. A closer inspection of financial records after the bust exposed a scheme to mislead the plant’s lenders to obtain larger advances on a loan.
this is great news that he will serve his sentence within close proximity of new york so that they can visit occasionally and bring him kosher food if the prison rules allow.

I suggest that all readers here read the actual sentencing documents. I suggest that any attorney contact SMR’s attys with any ideas you may have and not rely on “They must know it already”!. You never know.
You will note that the judge took the harder additional lines in the sentencing which added many years to his sentencing. There are many factors which were mitigating that the judge
had a right to take into account. She chose not to but to take a harder view in a quest to
add years. Let us move forward with tefilla and anyone who is an expert review what the judge wrote and contact his attys if you are certain to be able tohelp.
