Police say it appears the man used the drawstring from his shorts. He had been arrested on charges of domestic assault and was taken into custody Sunday. He was found at 8:25 p.m. in the cell at the 90th Precinct in the Williamsburg neighborhood.

The man’s name was not immediately released.

The officers are suspended as the investigation continues. Police are required to check on prisoners every 30 minutes.

if only they have audio from the holding cell where he was held, i was recently arrested and while i was in the holding cell the head detective came into my cell with all sorts of threats, maybe this poor fellow just couldn’t handle the threats anymore….

just because you are dealing with criminals, doesn’t give you the right to act like one.

This seems like the suspended cops are scapegoats for the system. If death occurs within 4-6 minutes of lack of breathing, checking every half-hour is way too long, unless they have cctv with 24hr. monitoring.
