Johannesburg – At a South African Holocaust museum that plans to open late next year in Johannesburg, the Holocaust will be featured beside a more local genocide: the Rwandan violence of 1994.

The inclusion of the African mass murder is not a mere gesture toward political correctness in what will be the third Holocaust museum in Africa. Rather it will be an integral part of the planned Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre.
“The Rwandan section is a prominent part of the permanent exhibition, not an afterthought,” said center director Tali Nates. “It will be a shared museum.”
The message the juxtaposition sends is stark: that the Holocaust, and remembrance of it, did not prevent another genocide from occurring. Even in Africa it’s not a message that naturally occurs to the Jews here, Nates said.

one major contrast between the genocides is that the holocaust was done by a ‘civilized & cultured’ people in Europe, where it was unheard of, while in primitive Africa it is commonplace to kill at random for religious, monetary, or political reasons.

Are you out of your mind?! Do you know what happened? The Hutus took control, forced everyone to carry ID cards that specified their race, and then they rounded up and slaughtered more than a 1,000,000 people within 3 MONTHS!
This isn’t “commonplace”, this wasn’t something that just happens all the time, this was a highly organized genocide of an entire race of people!
The government distributed weapons to police, military and civilians with the expressed intent of ethnic cleansing!
They began an entire propaganda campaign using the media to incite and mobilize the Hutu population against the Tutsi. They sensationalized false reports that the Tutsi had tortured, castrated and killed the Hutu president of Burundi. They spread lies that the Tutsi were going to use their “disproportionate share of wealth and power” to plot against and destroy the Hutu, and the only way for them to get rid of all of their problems was to kill out every last Tutsi…
How can you even think that this is not similar to the holocaust??
