Mall owner Simon Property Group said in a lawsuit filed this week that the clothing retailer owes three months of rent, totaling $65.9 million. Gap Inc. has more than 390 stores at Indianapolis-based Simon’s malls, including its namesake brand, Old Navy and Banana Republic.

Gap and other major retailers, including sneaker seller Foot Locker, have said they wouldn’t pay rent for stores that were forced to close due to the pandemic. In April, Gap warned that it may be sued by its landlords and that a dispute could be costly and have “an uncertain outcome.”

San Francisco-based Gap did not respond to a request for comment Thursday.

Filthy greedy landlords. Mayor DeBlasio said tenants don’t have to pay their rent. I didn’t pay mine yet for my apartment. Whatever the Mayor says, is the law. The Mayor also said there is a curfew. He also said schools must remain closed. He said no houses of prayer are allowed to have more than 10 people. He said you must wear a mask. He said you must stay at least 6 feet from the next person. You’re also not allowed to cross in middle of a street. That’s called jaywalking. You have no right to pick and choose which law you’re going to follow and which ones not. These greedy arrogant landlords think they are above the law.

How blind can you be? Who’s paying for the landlords expenses? Is the government paying for their mortgages, maintenance , property taxes???? It isn’t free to own property! The tenants are receiving free rent and getting government funding. The landlord who pays taxes is going into debt and is receiving no help at all. Workers are collecting unemployment and store owners are receiving substantial funding , but the landlords are getting NOTHING except their usual expenses that they aren’t able to cover! Who’s helping them!! You are so ignorant you are embarrassing yourself. Fight for the government to help them. The rest of the world is getting is a free ride.

Concerned citizen. Not a landlord or tenant. Just someone with brains .
