What Is Dabbing?

First, to help us understand the risks and the benefits that come with wax concentrate consumption, let’s first look into what dabbing is.

By definition, dabbing is the act of consuming wax concentrates either by way of a wax pen or by other means like a dab rig or a honey straw. Here’s how you go about it.

How Do You Dab?

Traditional means of dabbing involve the use of dab rigs. Dab rigs are large pipes designed specifically for consuming wax concentrates. It’s similar to a bong because it filters the vapor using water which also adds the element of moisture conditioning to your sessions to make it smoother and easier on the throat and the lungs. In addition to the glass piece that houses the water to filter the vapor, a dab rig will have either a nail, typically made out of quartz, ceramic, or titanium, or a banger that’s usually made out of glass. It can then be heated using a blow torch which will then vaporize the wax concentrates.

On the other hand, using a wax pen offers a more portable and an easier means of consuming wax concentrates. Unlike a dab rig that’s usually made up of a few several parts including a blow torch lighter, a wax pen only uses three components; a battery, an atomizer, and a mouthpiece. A wax pen or a dab pen works by drawing power from a battery to heat the atomizer instead of scorching a nail or a banger with a blowtorch. With just a few clicks of a button, you’ll have your vapors to inhale.

That said, there are obvious risks when handling a blow torch, especially when you’re already experiencing the psychoactive ingredients found in your wax concentrates. However, that risk is greatly reduced when using a wax pen. Using this as an example, one can definitely say that as long as you’re using a safer and a rather more convenient alternative (wax pen), dabbing can be a safe and a rewarding experience.

Alright, we’re barely just scratching the surface and now we’re going to talk about the actual effects of consuming wax concentrates to your body.

Dangers and Benefits of Dabbing

Dabs or wax concentrates are the raw embodiment of the actual active ingredients found on cannabis. Wax concentrates are produced by blasting the plant matter with a solvent and extracting the cannabinoids out of the plant matter producing a highly resinous substance we call today as dabs. Because dabs hold quite the hefty amount of cannabinoids, they could surprise you especially if you’re not used to receiving high doses of the psychoactive compounds of cannabis and therefore lies its risks. One can get easily high when consuming wax concentrates and should practice caution when taking dabs and start small with every session.

Nevertheless, because wax concentrates are stripped mostly of the components of the plant matter and go through a series of extraction and sterilization process, especially the high-end dabs produced by large companies and the ones sold on dispensaries. These wax concentrates will have very little traces of irritants or toxic byproducts which means that all you’re consuming basically are the active ingredients and here lie its benefits. This is one of the reasons dabbing has appealed to medicating patients, often in the form of consuming thick oil extracts. Here’s a quick comparison of smoking the actual plant matter versus dabbing wax concentrates using a wax pen.

See, when you smoke weed, there will be combustion as fire is needed to burn the dried plant matter whereas when you dab using a wax pen, you’re heating your wax concentrates without reaching the point of combustion which creates the ideal environment for extracting the active ingredients through the vapor. Combustion has been known to cause a slew of lung-related illnesses as combusting the plant matter causes it to break down to the smallest molecule. This process is known to be one of the causes the production of free radicals, especially in cigarettes. Free radicals can be dangerous to your health and is linked to many medical conditions including cancer. Because dabbing with a wax pen does not necessarily require you to burn anything, let alone use a lighter, you can eliminate combustion out of the equation which makes dabbing with a wax pen a safer alternative overall. No longer would you need wield a fire hazard halfway stoned but you’re also doing your body a solid because you’re inhaling the purest product one can get from cannabis.

Medicinal Benefits of Dabbing

As we’ve briefly covered above. Dabbing has been an appealing means of consuming cannabis for medicating patients. In fact, it’s one of the best means for them to reap the medicinal benefits of the plant matter in a fast and accurate way. Contrary to the common belief, cannabis and dabbing its wax concentrate derivatives, can be beneficial to your health. Cannabis has been used to manage and even cure tons of medical conditions from ones as simple as acne to ones as serious as cancer. Here are a few reasons why dabbing has helped many individuals.

Cannabis has been known to have anti-inflammatory properties that’s why it has been used to manage medical conditions like glaucoma and Cronh’s disease. It has also proven effective to be a pain killer that’s why many patients use it to manage chronic pain, muscle spasms, and other related illnesses. Moreover, cannabis can increase one’s appetite making it a great treatment for anorexia and appetite loss during cancer treatment. Lastly, its psychoactive effects are great for people dealing with stress and anxiety.

Final Words

For all intents and purposes, dabbing is good for your health. It offers a slew of medicinal benefits to help manage, treat, and cure certain medical conditions without the risks of long-term side effects like chemical and synthetic drugs. Nevertheless, it’s not your be-all-end-all cure and should be consumed using the right tools and should be practiced with caution.
