CALIFORNIA (AP) — The U.S. registered more COVID-19 deaths in a single day than ever before — nearly 3,900 — on the very day the mob attack on the Capitol laid bare some of the same, deep political divisions that have hampered the battle against the pandemic.

The virus is surging in virtually every state, with California particularly hard hit. Skyrocketing deaths and infections there are threatening to force hospitals to ration care and essentially decide who lives and who dies.

“Folks are gasping for breath. Folks look like they’re drowning when they are in bed right in front of us,” said Dr. Jeffrey Chien, an emergency room physician at Santa Clara Valley Regional Medical Center, urging people to do their part to help slow the spread. “I’m begging everyone to help us out because we aren’t the front line. We’re the last line.”

About 1.9 million people around the world have died of the coronavirus, more than 360,000 in the U.S. alone. December was by far the nation’s deadliest month yet, and health experts are warning that January could be more terrible still because of family gatherings and travel over the holidays.

A new, more contagious variant of the virus is taking hold around the globe and in the U.S.

On Wednesday, the day a horde of protesters breached the U.S. Capitol, disrupting efforts to certify the election of Joe Biden, the U.S. recorded 3,865 virus deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. The numbers can fluctuate dramatically after holidays and weekends, and the figure is subject to revision.

“The domestic terrorists overran the Capitol police, just as the virus has been allowed to overrun Americans,” said Dr. Eric Topol, head of Scripps Research Translational Institute.

The situation has been especially dire in California, which reported its second-highest number of daily coronavirus deaths, with 459. The state also registered more than a quarter-million new weekly cases. Only Arizona tops California in cases per resident.

Los Angeles County, the nation’s most populous with 10 million residents, and nearly two dozen other counties have essentially run out of intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients.

“This is a health crisis of epic proportions,” said Barbara Ferrer, public health director for Los Angeles County.

Guidelines posted on the website for Methodist Hospital of Southern California warned: “If a patient becomes extremely ill and very unlikely to survive their illness (even with life-saving treatment), then certain resources … may be allocated to another patient who is more likely to survive.”

As of Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 5.3 million people in the U.S. had gotten their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine — well short of the hundreds of millions of Americans who will need to be vaccinated to stop the virus.

I see Archy is out here justifying the actions of Trump supporters yesterday and blaming it on the virus, which Archy and Trump both denied. Not like any of these people locked down in any case, so not sure why they are going crazy from it.

I wonder if Archy still supports shooting rioters who engaged in sedition and insurrection. Just sick and twisted. Great legacy. I tried warning you all that the end of Trump would result in a repudiation of everything about him. All you perceive as good he did, risks becoming toxic in short order. But, no, I suffer from TDS. Much better than the sickness the supporters of the rabid animal suffer from.

End of his legacy, is after 1 term, he engaged in Treason and Sedition, lost the Senate, did not gain the House, and lost the Presidency. Mark my words, in the coming year a few Republican Congressmen will have a change of heart and switch to the Democrat side. You were concerned about court packing, guess what, Trump might have just made that an inevitable result.

Oh, you know what was barely news… Yeah, the record deaths from COVID. The President instead of being active in getting out this Vaccine and encouraging people to wear masks and social distance was singularly focused on destroying America.

Make America Great Again – Yeah, the pictures of those flags and hats, so many of you cheered when hateful people were driving around in idiotic parades, is now the primary symbol (along with the traitorous confederate battle flag) of the first time since the war of 1812 that the Capital building has been successfully breached. Even the confederates never made it that far.

Many are I dying I presume because Many doctors and hospitals may be following the CDC guidelines that declare most of the medications that work as not working.. Plasma? Doesn’t work! Hydroxychloroquine? Doesn’t work and is dangerous. etc. etc. All of it is baloney.
In New York the doctors and many hospitals are using these remedies with great success.
CDC says people with antibodies need to be vaccinated. Crazy! Over 87,000,000 people so far have tested positive worldwide. Of that number may a few hundred or thousand claim to have gotten it twice leaving an efficacy rate of over 99.999%. Vaccines claim about 95% CDC says they haven’t done a double blind study to prove that having antibodies work. Nuts! They haven’t done a double blind study showing that the sun rises in the east so I guess that according to the CDC we don’t know that the sun rises in the east!

Yes scary times. We need to hope for the best and realize it out of our hands. Barring a vaccine this is out of our control. By summer , we are optimistic it will disappear, between herd, vaccines and that it comes and goes.

If you live in CA where the fire is out of control the risk is high and abide by social distance. If you live in other places where its not overwhelmed and there only spoty out breaks at most (Like the frum community in NYC) then one needs to carry on normal lives. If no anti bodies wear a mask, but social distance is just something a frum yid can’t do. Its repercussions are too harsh.

Bear in mind, the DC incident is not isolated to covid. The lockdowns create people unemployed dowing nothing and tense. Full of anxiety and a tinder box. Sure Trump light that match and he is to blame, but realize the dangers of lock downs. This is something Fauci has no expertise in. Its not purely about spreading the disease vs not
