NEW YORK (VINnews / JTA) – Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving posted an apology to his Instagram late Thursday night, hours after being suspended without pay for at least five games for failing to condemn antisemitism.

“To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize,” Irving wrote in the post.

“I initially reacted out of emotion to being unjustly labeled Anti-Semitic, instead of focusing on the healing process of my Jewish Brothers and Sisters that were hurt from the hateful remarks made in the Documentary,” Irving continued. He acknowledged that he shared the film without clarifying which parts he agreed with and which he did not, such as Holocaust denial. Irving said he had “no intentions to disrespect any Jewish cultural history regarding the Holocaust.”

We appreciate this initial step taken by Irving, an effort to repair the damage he caused. We hope this is a sincere heartfelt message, not mere lip service in response to the pressure and his suspension, but a genuine recognition that his words and beliefs were dangerous.

Kyrie faced intense backlash. Unlike Kanye West who continues to double down on his disgraceful behavior, Irving has apologized, and we would like to recognize that he is doing the right thing.

It is our sincere hope that this is a true “reboot”, and his future actions are consistent with his new perspective.

There is no “Jewish cultural history regarding the Holocaust”. There is only factual history involving our murdered relatives.

Definitely a better way to handle a situation then his friend kayne.

However, this ‘group’ has ingrained antisemitism within their culture. I wonder how real this apology is.

In my humble opinion he should have not been suspended or fined. This only gives them more power. By saying the truth is suppressed. It’s good to know who your enemies are in the open.

Blacks are the most Jew-hating group in America. I don’t quite understand why. Their low general intelligence doesn’t quite explain it to me. After all, Germans are highly intelligent and educated.
