NEW YORK (VINnews) — In a number of interviews with foreign media outlets, Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu spelled out his philosophy for the need for judicial reforms in Israel. Netanyahu told Fox News anchor Mark Levin that the court had “arrogated to itself the powers of the executive and legislative arms during the 1990’s” and said that he was simply trying to reassert the balance of democracy which existed in Israel during its first five decades.

Netanyahu also spoke with Raf Sanchez, NBC’s Middle East correspondent. He assured Sanchez that “There will be no civil war in Israel. When the dust settles, people will see that this was necessary.”
“There won’t be civil war, I guarantee you that,” Israeli PM Netanyahu tells @NBCNews, amid mass protests following new legislation that severely weakens the country’s Supreme Court.

Netanyahu insisted that the recent legislation was “worth it” despite all of the opposition protests and demonstrations, in order to protect Israel’s democratic character.
With regard to political opposition and calls by military elements and others for refusal to serve the country, Netanyahu said that “I think it’s unfortunate that you’ve had reservists that are being lined up for something that involves a political debate,” adding that their involvement “politicizes the military.”
When asked if he would obey the Supreme Court if it struck down the new legislation, Netanyahu replied that the government has always respected the court but the court has always shown respect for basic laws and this is the fundamental of Israel’s governance.
Bibi is so level headed and rational. People equate him with trump. if you read Tom Freidman you think so. But listen to him speak and he is so much more rational and thoughtful. A real leader
Boo boo I mean boo hoo
In the USA, the Supreme Court can cancel a law *** IF *** it contradicts The Constitution.
In Israel, the Supreme Court can cancel *** ANY *** law, simply because they don’t like it.
Stated another way:
The USA’s Supreme Court can cancel a law, IF there is a legal basis for them to do so.
Israel’s Supreme Court can cancel ANY law, even if there is NO LEGAL BASIS for them to do so, simply because they want to.
RESULT: Judges who were never elected can overrule members of Knesset, who were all elected.
Balance. With all the power resting with one side.
Considering how this reform has caused a rift in the nation and is being used by the leftists to gore the government, perhaps it should have been shelved for a more opportune time. Like when the liberals try to put together a majority and they need to lean on some rightist parties. Then it would be an excellent bargaining chip. Netanyahu is the most eloquent and articulate PM the state has had. Such a pity that he is wasting his energy fighting this doomed battle. The fallout is not worth it.
