Gantz responded that he was not looking for compromises but for agreements. Rabbi Bergman related that when his father-in-law Rabbi Shach would hear about a fallen soldier, he would cry from sorrow. He added that the Torah had accompanied us through 2000 years when we had no land or weapons and it was only the Torah that maintained us over this period.

When Gantz mentioned the beginning of the school year, Rabbi Bergman said that his father-in-law would not eat on the 1st of September, since “How can I eat when a million children are going to school and don’t even know Krias Shma.”

Gantz continued to speak about the need for unity among people in Israel and the need to reach agreements.

Later Gantz visited the Yeshivas Rashbi which is headed by Rabbi Bergman and expressed his admiration for the diligence demonstrated by the students and avreichim at the yeshiva. He even sat down to learn in the yeshiva for a few minutes.

Unlike the filthy goy Lapid, Mr. Gantz actually looks like a nice reasonable guy.
