I love water. Seriously, I adore it. There’s nothing better than a cold glass of water on a hot summer’s day or a long gulp of fresh water after an intense workout. It’s also my go-to if I’m feeling any type of way. Stomach ache? I reach for water. Headache? You’ll find me pounding water.

But, I know not everyone feels the same affinity toward H20; some people need something extra to help them in their quest for hydration. My partner is one of those people, and he swears by Mi0. I’ll be honest; I wouldn’t touch the stuff before we got together. I assumed it wasn’t good for you. “Is mio bad for you?” I asked my partner one evening as he squirted the liquid into his glass of water. After making a joke I won’t repeat here, he gave me a lesson on all things MiO. Now, I’m a MiO convert. But let’s dive into why!

If you’re looking to cut down on your soda intake, MiO is an excellent option.

I’m lucky; I’ve never been a big soda fan. However, some of my friends and families have a strong affinity for soda, so much so that when it comes time for their annual physical, they know the first thing out of their doctor’s mouth will be: It’s time to cut back on soda. If that’s you, try swapping the soda for a few squirts of MiO into a glass of water. I think you’ll be surprised at how sweet and flavor-packed it is.

They have a large selection of flavors and offer both caffeinated and non-caffeinated options. If part of your draw to soda is carbonation, try squirting a few drops into a glass of sparkling water. You’ll still get that sweet, sweet fizz without all the sugar. MiO is naturally sweetened with plant-based Stevia

MiO is packed with B vitamins.

Little did I know when I asked, “Is MiO bad for you?” I was about to receive a science lesson. One of the aspects that sets MiO apart from soda and other drink enhancements is the level of vitamins packed into that little bottle. Along with electrolytes, the drink is rich in b vitamins.

Our bodies are complex and intricate but, at the same time, require simple components to operate at our fullest potential. Vitamin B is one of those components and is a building block to a functioning body. Along with boosting immunity, B complex (B6 and B12 are the most common) vitamins directly impact energy, brain function and metabolism.

If your energy is low and you can’t shake the feeling of fatigue, you may be suffering from a vitamin b deficiency. While getting the proper levels of vitamin b for your body can be done through diet (dairy, eggs, seafood, nuts, beans, and citrus fruits all contain a decent amount of vitamin b), certain medications and even your genetic makeup can leave you more prone to vitamin deficiencies. If you think that might be the case, consult your doctor, and they’ll be able to run a full round of tests to determine what vitamins you need to supplement through over-the-counter vitamins. Or, if you’re severely deficient, you’ll be prescribed a higher dose of said vitamin.

But, if your fatigue is relegated to the typical afternoon slump or getting the day started in the morning, finding your favorite MiO flavor might just be the pick-me-up you’ve been looking for. Because not only is it jam-packed with those energy-loving b vitamins, but it’s also caffeinated.

“MiO is a great coffee replacement.”

That’s a direct quote from my partner when I told him I was looking into whether or not MiO is bad for you (and yes, he reminded me of our initial conversation about the product all those years ago). While we both still enjoy the occasional coffee, I’ve spent more mornings this summer reaching for the bottle of MiO than our coffee pot. To me, it’s more refreshing in the morning than a hot cup of coffee, especially when it’s 90 degrees out. It’s also easier to make than coffee; there’s no grinding beans, waiting for it to brew, and worrying about giving my tongue a second-degree burn.

In a one-on-one comparison between regular soda and MiO, MiO will win every time. Why? Because it’s calorie-free.

The fact that it’s calorie and sugar-free makes it a clear winner when comparing the nutritional value between MiO and regular soda. As the season changes and we spend less and less time outdoors, we tend to slip back into old eating habits. That, in turn, shows up a couple of weeks later when we step on the scale. So, instead of reaching for liquid sugar, try reaching for water with a splash of sweetness. Your body (and doctor) will thank you!
