The governor said he wants to find out why New York's subway system, the largest in the U.S., broke down, stranding hundreds of thousands of city commuters.
"There was a system failure,'' the governor said, "Whenever we have a system failure, we're not satisfied.''

Subway lines returned to operation today after 6 a.m., with “extensive delays'' on the E, F and R lines, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Web site. The E and F lines are running local in both directions and there was no service on the V train in both directions between the Forest Hills-71st Avenue Station in Queens and the Second Avenue station on Manhattan's lower east side. Forecasters predicted thunderstorms with more heavy rain tonight and tomorrow. [bloomberg]

They seem to be blaming the National Weather Service for not warning them. But the warnings were issued and were right on target. The problem is, they were issued when everyone was asleep. Shouldn’t the NYC Subway System have a backup plan for middle of the night emergencies? They say they would have been better prepared had they had proper notice. Workers could have covered grates from which water runs in from the streets, and the like. They need to be better prepared. Not everything in the real world happens from 9-5 in the middle of a workday.

What another gimmick to raise the subway fares another time! This will be done under the prefix of repairing the subway flooding system! Of course nothing will be fixed and we will have to pony up more money on a broken subway system!!

Oh come on! It’s obvious that George Bush blew up the levies and caused this flood! He did it because he’s a racist and hates, uh, New Yorkers. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

This is not news. EVERY time it rains a moderate amount, the trains get messed up. They will now use this as an excuse to raise fares to “fix” the issue.
